HomelessFonts
This is interesting concept and perhaps a little unorthodox, but we're going to share anyways because here at The Bloc, that's what we do! Feel free to share your afterthoughts in the comment box below. There is a new font program out called "HomelessFonts", and it's exactly what you're thinking--fonts created from the signs of homeless men and women. Now you can download Lorraine's font, Luis' font, and so on. Someone's handwritting can reveal a lot about their personality,

It's Summer, and The Surf is Up!
Growing up within 30 mins to some of the nation's best beaches, pretty much every child was given some sort of board as their birthright. If you're a surfer like I am, you know that the worst thing is getting old wax off of your board without killing a credit card or other plastic necessity. EAST Surf Co. now has an answer to all your wax removal problems. This Brooklyn-based surfwax maker decided to design a wax comb that is as elegant as it is useful. The design is simple:
The ABC of Architects
I love this video by Andrea Stinga and Federico Gonzalez. I discovered it sometime last year, and just wanted to share it with those who probably haven't seen it yet! A oldie, but goodie. It's called the ABC of Architects. If you're just now starting out as an architecture student or you're emerging designer, you can name-drop any of these names or buildings in a pin-up or concept presentation, and get cool points from your friends or colleagues. Enjoy. The DesignBloc Palladi

Professional Artist Recreates Drawings from When He Was 4-Year's Old
Dutch artist, Telmo Pieper has given some of his childhood drawings a second chance at life. We all remember as a child, when we didn't care if our drawings had proportioned bodies or the same sized eyes. Well as a 4-year old, Piper didn't care about intricate details as well, and he is sharing his childhood artwork with a whole new twist. As you will see below, Pieper took the time to enhance and digitally render a few of his former adolescent masterpieces by adding material

Take a Look at What Coca-Cola is Doing to Empty Bottles... You Won't Believe It.
What a Beautiful Idea Imagine a world with less empty coke bottles flooding our rivers and polluting our streets. In fact, think of a world where all empty bottles can have a 2nd life. This video shares with us what that may look like. Coca Cola teamed up with award-winning ad agency Ogilvy & Mather China on a new “2nd Lives” campaign, and created 16 red screw-on caps that transform these plastic bottles into something fun, usable, and functional. Graham Fink, the chief creat

"Tent of Tomorrow" Receives Restoration Funds
The crown jewel of the 1964-65 World’s Fair in Flushing Meadows Corona Park has received funds from the city, in the amount of $5.8 million, for its restoration. A majority of the funding came from Mayor Bill de Blasio who contributed $4.2 million. With the neighboring Unisphere, the pavilion has become a symbol for the borough of Queens that looks like it will have another shot at life. Philip Johnson would be proud. If you would like to know more about this restoration, cli

The Abyss Table
A Cross-Section of the Ocean Christopher Duffy is at it again. This time he brings the ocean to your living room using layers of custom cut glass at wood to create an illusion of the ocean. While Duffy’s work usually plays with gravity, his new undertaking is showing a bit more depth... into the ocean. "I was looking into sheets of thick glass at my glass manufacturer's factory, and noticed how the material darkened as they added more layers - the same way the sea does as it

A New Artform: Wireless Networks
As humans, we are only able to see a small range of the electromagnetic spectrum, however Luis Hernan may have given us a view into what we are missing. By mapping wireless signals in a room using a “Kirlian Device,” he can translate the signals into color. The strongest of signals are converted to red, the weakest to blue, and in between a varying spectrum. Take a look at the image so see some of the awesome patterns and lights that come from it. The colors are mesmerizing!
