SOM has been selected to design a new residential building in Gothenburg that will be Sweden‘s tallest tower when completed. Whoa, check out the curves on the hourglass on this one!
Here's some quick facts
Competition: Karlavagnsplatsen Tower Competition Award: Winner Project Name: The Pole Star Architects: SOM Location: Karlavagnsgatan, Gothenburg, Sweden Design Team: Kent Jackson, Peter Jackson, Martin Grinnell & Yasemin Kologlu Photographs: Courtesy of Serneke
According to ArchDaily, "The competition, run by developers Serneke, called for proposals for a 32,000 square meter mixed-use masterplan, including a 200+ meter residential tower, in Gothenburg’s Lindholmen area. A particular focus for the jury was for proposals to “demonstrate how the skyscraper can be integrated into the structure of the neighborhood,” adding that “the building should be a part of the area’s social and architectural context, not stand as a solitary monolith.”
"The main tower will be for residential use, with a combination of single-storey and loft-style apartments and duplexes. The design has considered maximum efficiency in energy usage and floor space. Each apartment will have balcony access and there will be a public viewing deck at the top of the building. Community-building features of the residential development include a shared residents’ lounge, a public restaurant, a gym and a roof deck at podium level" states Inhabitat.
Here at The DesignBloc, we think it's pretty a sleek and elegant looking tower. We appreciate the portion of risl taken.
