Loop de Loop

William Pedersen, that’s right, one of the names behind Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF), staffed his own booth at the ICFF and presented his new furniture collection titled “Loop de Loop.” His new furniture series features a set of chairs made with curved carbon-steel forms to resemble a body in forward motion.

The collection includes a side chair, dining chair, chaise, lounge chair with ottoman, and the promise of a rocker in the future. When the architect was asked why he started designing furniture he simple replied “With so many dimensional and constructional requirements, it’s one of the most difficult design challenges an architect can face.” From his stance, the time it takes to investigate the full potential of a chair is almost the same as what it would be for a large building.

The next round of prototypes are already in works and tentatively should be available by this fall. He wasn’t able to say the price but promises they will be comfortable and affordable. A chair designed by an architect that is wallet friendly? I’m hoping it’s true but don’t expect me to hold my breath about it.
